Erik W Nerland

MOLDE, NORWAY

Erik is born and raised in the north western parts of Norway. With this in mind, Erik is used to the challenging and changing conditions of crystal-clear rivers while hunting for Atlantic salmon and sea-run browns. He is truly passionate and dedicated to what he’s doing. He loves the modern way of fly fishing as well as the more conservative approach. With an eye for details, Erik has acquired great knowledge about the game of salmon angling, on the river as well as by the vise. With a big passion for fly casting as well, he always looks for different situations and good ways to overcome the given conditions.

Erik’s number one target species is the Atlantic salmon:
– These fish will always put you to the test, no matter what, he says. Strong fights and long grinds to find that one fish makes focus an absolute at all time. For Erik all types of fishing is interesting to some extent, as long as it’s running water, and even better if it’s with a double hander.

– Flies and conditions go hand in hand, but never be afraid do try the unconventional, Erik says. While early season fishing mostly means big and "slow" flies, Erik loves to find alternatives. Smaller flies and patterns designed for warmer days might do the trick, and vice versa. There is no universal rule for salmon angling, and it’s always good to look for alternative strategies, even if the conditions say something else. Don’t be afraid to try, it may pay off big time. His fly boxes and wallets might therefore contain a lot of different styles of flies at any given time. Flies like Samurais and Monkeys are always to be found, together with a few other patterns to match the given water and river. Oh, and a few good Ally Shrimps are always in the box. You might run into this guy anywhere basically. With a base in north west and middle of Norway, he could be seen along any of the rivers in the area. Erik’s absolute favorite rivers are Stjørdalselva, Eira and Beiarn.
